Trial of Trials : Act 2

There's something uneasy that can be felt in the city, and seemingly no end to the rumors springing up in the wake of the downtown explosion that leveled BOARD's headquarters. Stories of an odd sickness where the afflicted suddenly winds up anemic, their blood levels dangerously low, despite feeling fine that morning have already taken root, others of strange animals seen roaming at night, and horrible screams and gunshots in one of the parking garages....

The space where the ill-fated headquarters lays silent, an empty patch of dirt and gravel that seemed to attract those drawn to stories and rumors. Police have already had to shoo away opportunists with metal detectors, hoping to find something interesting in the impressively quickly cleared wreckage, and others have reported something that just feels... wrong, when they walk by the site. The ghosts of those who hadn't made it out of the collapse? Or something else? Noone can really put a finger on it to explain.

And meanwhile, under the cover of shadows, things unknown to those who still walk in the light continue to move. Whispers of the rogue mage and a treasure trove of information, of upsets in the vampire hierarchy, and sworn revenge on the mages who had used one of their own for their gain.

And deep in a hidden lab, BOARD's remains and allies continue to work, twisting all they can get their hands on to create the perfect weapon; made of the very things they wish to cleanse from the world. The loss of the incapacitated vampire elder was only a small one, with how much they had already extracted and drawn from it. And if the rumors of their knowledge being in the hands of their enemies were true? They would just have to speed up their projected timeline. Or simply slow down that of the world. After all, they were mages. Reality bended to their will, not that of those who opposed them....

"Which house is yours?" Because he's not having that discussion anymore. It's dumb. And he wants to be rid of this child sooner rather than later.

The child is about to answer and then abruptly stiffens, all of a sudden alert and tense, staring into the shadows next to them. If Micchy turns that way, he'll notice someone standing in the shadows.

He does turn, and narrows his eyes, trying to see what's there.

A woman steps out from the shadows, and then the child first relaxes and then has suddenly slipped out from Micchy's arms and is running towards her to picked up again by her. The woman sighs, sets the child down on her hip and comes over, pasting a smile on her face as she goes. "You found her?"

Well, that's fine. He wasn't thrilled about holding onto a child anyway. "... Yes. She was across the park. She shouldn't be out this late - it's very dangerous." Not just from him, but... well. She's been tempting him.

Now that she stands a bit more in the light, the family resemblance becomes obvious in their features - looks like the child will grow up to resemble her mother very much or the other way around.

"Lottie. You know you shouldn't go out at night." "But I don't want to go out during the day! The sun is stupid!" "...," the woman shakes her head. "At least wake me up next time?

Sorry," the woman looks up at Micchy, "I'm forgetting my manners. Thank you for bringing her home. I usually catch her before she leaves the house and gets in trouble.

At least we live further away from the next big street now, I guess."

He just lets the two have their arguing, not saying anything yet. It's not like he has anything to add. When she addresses him, he bows his head slightly.

"It's not an issue. It's good that she's independent, but she needs to learn to be safer out here... but you're welcome." Is he done, can he go, he's too thirsty and she looks way too good... ugh, no. He has to keep it together.

"We're working on it.

Say good night." The child waves at Micchy. "Good night!"
And with that the walk off towards the houses.
